Johanson Boatworks
The company began as a yacht repair/boatbuilding business in the late 1970s. From those early days, Johanson Boatworks has been involved in a wide variety of projects, including construction of eighteen square meter catamarans, DN iceboats, a large fleet of Cook 11 Frostbite dinghies, and custom yacht interiors. Restoration projects have included repairs to superstructures, and hulls; teak deck replacements, and extensive repairs to severely damaged vessels. The list of maintenance tasks performed include rigging, finish work, awlgrip, fiberglass, carpentry, engine / mechanical systems, and electrical systems including electronics installation. 

In 1990, the company started its bareboat chartering division with a small fleet of sailboats. As our charter demand has grown, the number of boats has also grown, to the sizable fleet of today. While some of the boats are owned by Johanson Boatworks, and others are under our management, every boat in the fleet is maintained by our trained and professional staff.

Peter Johanson
Founder and president of the company, Peter has been involved in almost every aspect of boat repair and maintenance in his more than twenty years with Johanson Boatworks. His in-depth knowledge is of crucial importance in assisting our charter clients and in keeping our fleet maintained at the very highest level. An avid sailor, Peter began cruising the Maine coast while he was still a toddler. Thanks to his affinity for the water, his sailing experience, and his navigational skills, he is able to train our staff to provide excellent first-hand information to charterers during pre-cruise briefings.

Mary Johanson
Co-owner and marketing manager of the company, Mary also coordinates planning and scheduling for both the charter division and the repair operation. Prior to coming on board full time with Johanson Boatworks, Mary managed several small companies in Maine and worked in marketing and sales for two gourmet
wholesale distribution companies. She has spent many hours on the water, cruising Maine and the East Coast to the Bahamas. She finds it very satisfying to share her love of cruising Maine as she helps charter clients plan their vacations.

Our repair and charter staff are all highly trained professionals who are committed to delivering only the best in service to you. Ever member of the crew is extremely helpful in making sure that your boating experience is rewarding from start to finish. From the loading and offloading of gear, to the supplying and cleaning of the boats, they strive to ensure that all of your needs are met. Our repair staff are meticulous in maintaining all the systems on our charter boats, both prior to and during the season. Their number-one goal is for you to have an entirely trouble-free charter.
