KATHLEEN, a 42-foot downeast
cruiser whose lines echo her lobsterboat heritage, was
built and launched by Johanson Boatworks in 2002.
Designed by Geoff Dickes, she has already
proven to be solid and steady even in confused seas. Her
hull and decks, built by Wesmac Custom Boats of Surry, were delivered to
Johanson Boatworks in August 2001. Over the ensuing fourteen
months, the Johanson crew created the yacht's traditional
Herreshoff-style interior, which features custom cherry
cabinetry, doors, and trim. They also installed all systems,
including fuel lines, steering hydraulics, electrical,
fresh water, mechanical, and electronics. In addition,
all interior and exterior varnishing and painting was done
by Johanson, as was the Awlgripping of the decks and cabin house.
KATHLEEN's 800-horsepower
Caterpillar 3406 diesel engine allows her to cruise with
ease at 22 knots. Her layout provides ample live-aboard space, with a roomy cockpit,
full galley in the pilothouse, two double staterooms, and
a head with shower stall. The boat has been outfitted with
top-of-the-line electronics, including Simrad color radar,
Garmin color chartplotter, and a computer with charts.
The second Wesmac hull that Johanson Boatworks has finished
off, KATHLEEN will spend the winter in the Carolinas
and return to Maine in the spring.
