Terms and Conditions
for Bareboat Charters
Sailing Resume
To qualify for bareboat charter, your designated
skipper must complete our sailing
resume questionnaire.
Upon approval of the resume and signing of the charter
agreement for the desired boat and date(s), a deposit
equal to half the charter fee is required. The remainder
of the
bareboat charter
fee, plus a security deposit, is due two weeks before
your charter is scheduled to begin. We accept
both cash and personal checks. We regret that we are unable
to accept credit
cards at this time.
Cancellation Policy
If you must cancel your charter, the
cancellation fee is $150 if we are notified at
least 90 days before your scheduled charter date. If you cancel less than 90
days in advance, we will be unable to provide a refund
or credit unless we are able to re-book the yacht. If
the boat is re-booked, we will refund your charter
payment, on a pro-rated basis, less the $150 cancellation fee.
Security Deposits and Insurance
All of our boats carry hull coverage
and liability insurance including a rider for bareboat
chartering. The bareboat charter provision states that
the charterer is covered as the owner to the constraints
of the policy,
which include
the insurance deductible. The charterer must provide
a security deposit equal to the deductible; the amount
varies per boat, but is no less than $1000. The security
deposit check is cashed and the money is placed in
an escrow account. A refund check, less the cost of diesel
fuel, float fees, and any losses or damages, will be
mailed to you within a few days of your returning the
boat.
Weekly Rates
Our standard rates are based on a one-week
charter during the summer season, which begins the Saturday
of the last week in June and ends the Saturday of the weekend following
Labor Day. We offer a 10 percent discount for the week
preceding and the week following the summer season. For
other weeks before and after these dates, there is a
15 percent discount. These discounts only apply to charters of a full week's duration.
Week-Plus, Multi-Week, and Short-Term Rates
Additional charter days are pro-rated based on the boat's
seven-day rate. Multi-week charters are discounted as follows:
first full week, full rate; second full week, 10 percent
discount; additional full weeks, 15 percent discount.
Most of our clients prefer charters of at least seven days,
but we do also offer charters of between four and
six days as the schedule permits. The rates for these
are pro-rated, based on the summer seven-day rate plus
10 percent during the high season. Four-day charters during the
off season are not marked up 10 percent. We cannot commit
to short-term charters during the high season until very
close to the date you wish to depart.
Boarding Times
Our charter operation runs seven days a
week. We begin our boardings and checkouts as early as
7:30 a.m., and continue until 5 p.m. If you arrive at 4 p.m. or after,
the full check-out of the boat's systems will take place the following morning.
Safety Equipment
All of our boats are outfitted with all
safety gear required by the Coast Guard for coastal cruising.
On board you will also find navigational tools:
- 2 Maptech Waterproof Chart books: One covering Casco
Bay, Maine to Camden, Maine and nne covering Penobscot
Bay, Maine to Mt. Desert Island, Maine
- Chart # 13302 Penobscot Bay and Approaches
- A copy of A Cruising Guide to the Maine Coast by Hank and
Jan Taft.
Every boat is equipped with Radar, GPS, and VHF
radio, in addition to the standard electronics.
There are 12-volt cigarette lighter outlets for the use of cell phones.
Gear
We strive to furnish our boats with as complete a
galley as possible, including a lobster pot, workable tools,
and dish towels. You will also find a basic supply
of garbage bags, toilet paper, dish soap, sponges,
and so forth. Most of the grills are propane, unless specified
as charcoal, and we provide propane. In addition, blankets,
pillows, and sheets are provided for each berth. Bath
towels, hand towels, and face cloths corresponding
to the number of berths are supplied as well.
Where We Are
We will welcome you aboard your yacht at Landings
Marina, at the southern end of Rockland's large harbor.
A vibrant town and sailing center, Rockland, Maine offers
many specialty shops and a wide choice of cuisines for
dining
ashore.
You'll find everything you need to provision for your
cruise in the several top-notch supermarkets and fine
gourmet stores located within a mile of the harbor.
Cultural attractions include numerous art galleries
and the highly regarded Farnsworth Museum, which has
a distinguished collection of works by three generations
of Wyeths.
The Atlantic Challenge organization is also headquartered
here and hosts many youth sailing programs and events
throughout the summer.
There are two major airports, one
in Portland and the other in Bangor; both are about two
hours from Rockland by car. There is also a commuter flight on Colgan Air from
Boston to Rockland's airport, which is a five-minute
taxi ride to the marina. Bus service from Boston is provided
by Concord Trailways.
We will meet you on the dock at Landings
Marina and assist you with putting your gear on board.
We'll conduct a complete checkout of the boat's systems with you,
and then guide you to one of our many moorings within the
harbor. The moorings are available during the term of your
charter, as well as on the night of your return. Rockland's
harbor taxi runs continually and can provide you with launch
service during your stay. Dinghy tie-ups are available
at Landings Marina. If you prefer shoreside dockage, it
can be arranged there ($2 per foot) or at several other
marinas on the harbor.
Landings Marina also offers shower and laundry facilities and a restaurant serving lunch
and dinner. There is also a private function room which you can reserve if you
need a convenient place to get together with the rest of
your group.
Parking for your car is available at Landings Marina
for $8.00 per day. Free parking is available at our inland
repair facility (15 minutes from the harbor), but a taxi
or other means of transport will be required to get you there.
Our Commitment
We personally maintain every boat in our
charter fleet and have been involved in boat construction
and repair for over twenty years. We oversee every detail,
from autumn haul-out to recommissioning and launching
in
the spring. We perform preventive maintenance all winter
to avoid problems with boats during the season. In
the event that you ever require back-up assistance, we
are always ready with quick solutions because we know
every boat thoroughly. We put forth every effort to ensure
that your boat and its systems will be in top working
order when your bareboat charter begins.
